Dal Tadka

Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow lentils (toor/moong/masoor), rinsed
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric; salt
- Tadka: 2 tablespoons ghee, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 2 garlic cloves sliced, dried red chili, pinch asafoetida (optional)
- Onion/tomato optional; cilantro; lemon
Steps
1. Cook lentils with turmeric and water until soft and soupy; mash lightly; salt.
2. Heat ghee; crackle cumin, garlic, and chili for tadka.
3. Pour sizzling tadka over dal; stir.
4. Finish with cilantro and lemon; serve with rice or roti.
